Meditation is “gathering the senses and becoming absorbed in the center within you.” (Gurumaii Chitvalasananda). Through grace, one transitions into a peaceful, awareness, that is an eternal part of you, In western religions, we would call it our soul. It is so much more than your body and intellect. When we become familiar with this part of ourselves, we become less attached to outcomes and more joyful in processes. Thus we support a greater paradigm, and are likewise supported and express who we are with love. All religions have some form of meditation, but it is not required to belong to a religion in order to use their practices.

More on Meditation
There are many methods of meditation. Some work better at different stages of ones life due to how my mind was working. Some work better because they were powerful methods. And some work best, because they were infused with the energy of a great teacher or spirit, bestowed with the ability to infuse the practice with an energy that awakens your spirit.
Meditation is a mystical practice found in and out of religions. The founders or earliest records of meditation did not affiliate with a religion, but their intentions would be considered in some way related to shifting our awareness away from the mundane concerns, towards a graceful presence both within us, in everything and beyond our consciousness. Many see it as the closest thing to communing with God.
One doesn’t have to think about all this in order to do it. One needs mostly to find practices that assist in quieting the chatter in the mind, and not let the ego dominate thoughts or actions. Achieving a blissful state gets easier as your mind becomes habituated to bringing the senses to it’s peaceful center. It wants to go there.
Take an easy straight backed posture, start with remembering a time when you felt a greater presence. Hold onto that feeling and relax. It can be that easy. The more you do it the more your brain develops the ability to take yourself there.
